About Craig Ham

My angling journey started from the age of 4, when my dad who was a keen match angler took me to the local park. As with most anglers my first fish was a small perch – I was amazed by it even irrespective of its size. From that day on I was hooked on fishing.

As I became older and more competent my dad started taking me to the mighty River Trent. I developed the art of both stick float fishing and ledgering. I joined his fishing club at the age of 11 – holding my own against all the stalwarts of the club. At the age of 13 I won the division two and was promoted to fish against all the big boys. That year I was invited down to a trial by Hull & District AA for their Junior match squad. The trials were held at a local lake Rush Lyvars which held carp.

At my first trial session I hooked something on the pole that I just couldn’t stop, this turned out to be a carp. I remember the power of the fish – I wanted one!
After the next trial session had ended I stayed later to try and tempt one. Fishing with heavier tackle and on a ledger rod I caught my first carp on a cube of luncheon meat weighing 14lb. I had never seen anything as big or as powerful.
The next weekend I harassed my dad into taking me to the local tackle shop to buy a purpose built carp rod/reel and an buzzer alarm – I spent almost all my savings from the local paper round, but was ready for the next adventure.
I continued to fish locally for carp through my early teenage years. My good friend Dave Armstrong who was also a keen angler took me to fish my first night at Emmotland. I was around 17/18 at this point and I was lucky enough to catch a common carp.

I started to fish the local day ticket lakes and joined a couple of nearby syndicate’s. this led me onto fishing further afield and eventually abroad.
Locally I will be fishing the likes of PB Lakes and my East Yorkshire Syndicate.
The European style of fishing is where I have been most successful catching over 31 different carp over 50lb upto 60lb 2oz which is my current pb. On these trips you often bump into various people from other parts of the country. I am lucky to have met some great lads and formed friendships with them through our passion for angling. This is how I was introduced to Karper.
After speaking to both Ben about the brand and it’s ethos, consultants but also good friends Andy Beach and Jamie Batson – both of whose opinion I trust, it convinced me to join the ever growing team at Karper.

Bait is a vital part of any anglers armoury and having trust in what you are using.

The people behind the scenes at Karper like Ken Dack have a proven track record of producing quality bait. This gives me the assurance and confidence I need to achieve the goals I set myself.

I look forward to been able to contribute to what is already a formidable team and help expand the brand at Karper.
